Arrive Srinagar
Srinagar · 1,585 mMet at the airport and driven to the Boulevard — about thirty minutes. The rest of the day is deliberately empty: a shikara out onto Dal Lake at sunset, and nothing else scheduled.
Meals: Dinner

Two nights in Pahalgam, so you get Aru and Chandanwari properly.
The plan
The version we recommend most often. Moving to Pahalgam for two nights turns three rushed valley stops into a full unhurried day, and takes five hours of driving out of the week.
Deluxe houseboat, four-star hotels, private cab throughout.

The Mughal gardens — Nishat, Shalimar and Chashme Shahi — stepping down towards the lake, then Hazratbal and the wooden Khanqah-e-Moula in the old city. Evening free at Lal Chowk or the Polo View market.

Ninety minutes up through Tangmarg to the meadow at 2,650 m. The Gondola runs in two stages — we aim to be in the queue early, because the second stage is capped daily and closes for wind.

Transfer through Pampore's saffron fields to Pahalgam, then Betaab Valley in the afternoon. Overnight beside the Lidder, which you can hear from the room.

The three side valleys, each a different direction out of town. Aru is the quietest and our pick; Chandanwari holds snow into early summer. Local vehicles are mandatory beyond Pahalgam and are included.
